Company History
Meet Equity Trucking
At Equity Transportation, we are proud of our long history in the Transportation Industry that dates back to the early 1900’s, when Equity Transportation Owner and President Alan Bishop’s Great Grandfather was the first president of Associated Truck Lines in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
1928
After retiring from Associated Truck Lines in 1928, Alan’s Great Grandfather and his brothers started Bishop Motor Express. In 1972, Alan’s Father purchased Bishop Motor Express, which evolved into TML during the mid-1980’s.
1979
Equity Transportation Company, Inc. was formed by Edwin Stoga & Joe Mooney on October 26, 1979. Both Edwin & Joe came from Interstate System, a Grand Rapids, MI based LTL trucking company, where Joe was President and Ed was Vice-President of Sales.
1993
Alan Bishop, current Owner and President of Equity, brought with him over 25 years of knowledge and experience when he joined Edwin as a 50% partner in April of 1993. Alan became the sole owner after Edwin’s death on June 4th 2009.
1994
Chad Bishop joined his father, Alan, and continued the family’s multi-generational involvement in the Transportation Industry. In typical Equity fashion, Chad worked in the shop, dispatch, sales, and most importantly, drove a truck. “We wanted Chad to learn the lessons my dad and grandfather taught me,” says Alan. “That every person here is working towards one goal – to support our drivers. Without them, nothing else happens.”
